Solothurn — Galatina — Santa Caterina
- Experience hours: Full day- 10:00 - 12:30 (Lunch break) 15:00-17:30;
The day will begin with a visit to Soleto, the beating heart of Salentine Greece and the driving force of Byzantine culture in Land of Otrant.
We will discover the historic center and its many facets: the spire of Raimondello, a sign of the power of the greatest feudal lord in Southern Italy at the end of 1300; the legendary figure of Matteo Tafuri, a scholar and scientist accused of witchcraft; the church of Santo Stefano, a very precious treasure chest that bridges the gap between East and West.
From here, we will move to nearby Galatina. The two cities are closely linked together, under the name of the Orsini del Balzo. We will be dazzled by the beauty of the Basilica of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria, an unattainable symbol of the Romanesque and Gothic art of the territory. His pictorial cycles are comparable, in Italy, only to those of the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi. After visiting the church with the cloister and the small Treasure Museum, we will go to discover the historic center to tell about headless knights and Tarantism.
After the lunch break, we will move to the marina of Santa Caterina to walk to the Torre dell'Alto, one of the most impressive of the “Crescent Belt”, located at the crown of the Porto Selvaggio Natural Park.
